Many people have either seen or own a copy of Raul Diez Muro's 1949 book "Historia De Base Ball Professional De Cuba." It is a classic 390-page book on the history of professional basebal in Cuba conaining many line scores from games as well as roster information. It is not easy to find, but there are many copies out there and one usually pops up for sale every once in awhile.
While many are familiar with this collectible book, few realize that this actually the third edition. The first edition was published in 1907 under the title "El Base-Ball En La Habana, Matanzas y Cardenas 1878-1907." The subsequent second and third editions were merely updates that added additional data on post-1907 seasons and photographs.
Featured in this lot is one of the few remaining copies of this 1st edition book. This one has been professionally hardbound within the last 10 or 15 years.
This lot originates from the Cesar Lopez collection of Cuban baseball cards. Mr Lopez is better known as the creator of www.cubanball.com.
